STUDENT OF
COLOR CONFERENCE 2011
E.D.U.C.A.T.E.: Connecting Our Struggles
November 11-13, 2011
“Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore. We have seen the future, and the future is ours.” - Cesar Chavez
SoCC 2011 SPECIAL EVENTS
Study Space
Too often we go to these conferences with midterms and finals in the upcoming weeks after the conference. We recognize and acknowledge that in order for us to be involved in activism and to advocate for student of color recruitment we must retain ourselves as students. Therefore, we will be providing an open study space for the entire weekend for those students who need a place to study in between events.
Video Screenings
How often do we go to these conferences and end up skipping out on 1 or 2 workshops? We’d like to provide a room where we’ll play a movie/documentary that will discuss issues specific to communities of color in education and beyond. This will be available all weekend. We can also incorporate some sort of discussion board which we can utilize in a zine of some sort.
Graffiti Cubes
This area will be available all weekend with spray cans, paint, stencils and the like to allow for all of the students to artistically showcase their thoughts, ideas and feelings throughout the conference. We can split the canvas between the UC campuses as a remembrance of our solidarity and unity.
