STUDENT OF
COLOR CONFERENCE 2011

E.D.U.C.A.T.E.: Connecting Our Struggles
November 11-13, 2011

“Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore. We have seen the future, and the future is ours.” - Cesar Chavez

SoCC 2011 Action Project

Connecting our struggles through personal stories as a plan of action. We will be utilizing technology and filming everyone’s personal story throughout the weekend (with consent). Participant will be telling their unique experiences as students of color. Through this, the connection of the struggles that each Student of Color faces will be featured through this film.

Seven to ten camera stations will be available throughout the weekend filming the student that is telling their story through spoken word, poetry, song, or simply expressing to the camera whichever way they are able to. The UC Davis SoCC collective will be editing the ten minute film and it will be premiered before Quarter system finals. The video clips that are not featured in the video will still be handed to every delegation that requests it for further educating on social justice. Not only will this connect our struggles, but it will really educate people on the real issues facing students of color by expressing their personal stories.
