E.D.U.C.A.T.E.: Connecting Our Struggles
November 11-13, 2011
“Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore. We have seen the future, and the future is ours.” - Cesar Chavez
Greetings from the SoCC 2011 Planning Committee
The 23rd annual Student of Color Conference (S.o.C.C.) will be hosted by the University of California Davis on November 11th to 13th, 2011! This year's theme will be E.D.U.C.A.T.E.: Connecting Our Struggles. The acronym E.D.U.C.A.T.E. stands for "Elevate, Dedicate, Unify, Celebrate and Advocate to Empower". We wish to recognize and celebrate the differences and similarities in our lives and struggles with the intention of helping each other achieve our goals now and in the future. This years conference focus will be on our ability to E.D.U.C.A.T.E. and be educated. By hosting the 2011 SoCC at UC Davis we hope to propose policy changes that will help empower the youth of today and tomorrow and that will concentrate on education and not incarceration.
